Deadly fire in Lapta brought under control
A wild fire broke out at the Lapta's Aytoro region at about 8:00pm on Monday evening causing fear and panic in the area.
Fire crew and police said they could not determine the cause of the fire at the time of report.
The fire in the reed bed in the creek area spread in a short time due to the effect of the wind.
The intense smoke sprang up lighting up the darkness and flames rose by a hundred meters into the sky as residents fled to the streets.
The Girne Fire Department, the Forest Department and the police crew, and residents of the area, were mobilized to extinguish the flames.
The residents and the teams of the region made a great effort to prevent the flames from entering nearby buildings.
The fire, was brought under control at 9:30 pm followed by a long period of cooling.
