76% of people living in north Cyprus want the country to change currency as the Turkish Lira devalues - Olomoinfo polls
On Friday we ran a poll on Facebook on the need for the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus to dump the down sliding Turkish Lira and adopt a new currency and 76% of those who voted supported the idea while 24% voted no.
In less than 48 hours, the Turkish Lira reached an all time low against the US dollars plummeting by about 17% on Friday and is impacting negatively on standard of living in north Cyprus so we decided to run a poll asking the public if they would support the country changing to a new currency as the crisis lingers on.
As at the time of the 24 hours polls on Friday, the Turkish Lira was exchanging at about 6.4 to the US dollars with no signs that it will stabilized after the US president, Donald Trump tweeted that he has authorized a doubling of Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum with respect to Turkey as the currency slides rapidly downward against the US dollars.
From the poll posted as at about 7:20pm on Friday, August, 10 to Saturday August, 11 received 50 votes.
From the votes, 38 people representing 76% of the votes support the idea of the TRNC adopting a new currency while 12 people representing 24% of the votes didn't support the idea.
