Two drunk soldiers in Girne mistakes elderly woman's house for that of a girl they met online

They met a girl online and decided to pay her a visit. They got drunk on their way to visit their new catch in Girne, north Cyprus, but ended up in the house of an elderly woman who accused them of sexual harassment and theft.

Two men under the influence of alcohol have been arrested for stealing from and harassing an elderly woman in Girne.

The two men identified as Mehmet Emin Sönmez and Mehmet Sirkeci who are soldiers in the TRNC had gone to Girne to see a girl they met on the internet. The men who were drunk at the time confused the girl's address with that of an elderly woman.

They then entered the elderly woman's home at Canbulat Street, Girne on Friday July, 20 where they made away with 50 Euros and 80 TL cash.

Following the incident, the woman emerged from the house shouting in panic which attracted the attention of her neighbors who gathered at the scene. One of the suspect Mehmet Emin Sonmez was later captured by the police with 50 euros found on him.

The second suspect, Osman Sirkeci was later arrested at Ercan Airport, while trying to leave the country.

They were taken to a Girne court on charges of "Sexual Harassment" and "Property Rape."

They confessed that they were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

We went to the wrong building because we were under the influence of alcohol. one of the suspect, Mehmet Emin Sonmez, told the court.
I made what happened under the influence of alcohol. I do not remember any of what happened. I did not see the woman in question, he said.

The other suspect, Osman Sirkeci said,

We decided to go on a visit to the address we found on the internet. We thought the old woman's house was the address of the girl we found on the internet site. We were under the influence of alcohol, so we did not realize we were going to the wrong building. When I realized we were going to the wrong house, I got out of there. I never sexually harassed the old woman.

They were ordered by the court to remain in detention for three days for further investigation on the matter.
