Three dead after mass shooting in New Orleans

A mass shooting in New Orleans, US has left three people, including two men and a woman dead, and at least seven injured close to the Chicken & Watermelon eatery.

The incident occurred in the 3400 block of South Claiborne around 8.30pm local time on Saturday outside a restaurant in New Orleans.

Police say two people in hooded sweatshirts opened fire on a crowd on South Claiborne Avenue in Louisiana.

One of them was carrying a long gun and the other had a handgun and "appear to have fired indiscriminately", police told reporters at the scene.

Witnesses described hearing more than 13 "intermittent" shots fired close to the Chicken & Watermelon restaurant.
He described hearing between 13 and 16 shots fired in intermittent batches.

Police said three victims died at the scene while the seven injured were taken to hospitals for treatment while others are treated at the scene by emergency services.

Three of the injured victims were taken by ambulance, while the four remaining arrived by private rides.

Emergency services spokesman Jonathan Fourcade said three of the seven injured people were taken by ambulance to University Medical Center's trauma centre.
 
According to the New Orleans Advocate, the Saturday’s shooting happened in the vicinity of Jazz Daiquiris & Lounge, which has been the site of gang violence in the past.
