Nigerian jailed for three months for stealing from parked vehicles in Lefkosa

A Nigerian living in North Cyprus has been arrested and sent to prison for allegedly stealing from parked vehicles.

The suspect, a, student with one of the university in Cyprus was reportedly found stealing from parked vehicles in several locations in Lefkosa.

He was arrested on June 27 and taken to court on the charges of "unlawful gain and theft," before being sent to the Lefkosa central prison on Monday as an unconstitutional prisoner for security reasons until his trial.

According to police report, the suspect had stolen a credit card from a wallet inside a lady's bag inside a car parked at a parking lot in Lefkosa on June 22.

Police said the suspect also stole 20TL and bank cards from inside a hand bag in the front seat of a car parked in Taşkınköy on June 22.

Police said their investigation revealed that the suspect had on May 26 at Gönyeli stole 500TL from a wallet inside a parked car.

Police also noted that several of the bank cards stolen were found at his apartment. Police told the court that the suspect accepted his crime and gave voluntary statement.

Noting that the crime committed by the suspect was serious, police begged the court to grant it's request for the suspect to be remanded in custody for three months.

The court judge ordered that he be sent to prison as unconstitutional prisoner, provided that he did not exceed 3 months in any case.
