Russian couple on a visit to north Cyprus from south Cyprus arrested for taking photos of a forbidden zone

Being ignorant of your environment is not an excuse to do what you did or fall into trouble. Before embarking on a journey or visit to anywhere it is very important to know about the place, the people and it's laws. A Russian couple who failed to do just that are paying the fine for their ignorance as they cool their feet in police net.

A Russian couple living in south Cyprus and were on a visit to North Cyprus were arrested for taking photos/video in the closed city of Maraş.

The couple Ruslan Kalevenko and Elvira Kalevenko who lived in Southern Cyprus and had legally traveled to the TRNC for a visit on Monday, July 23.

They were later arrested on the same day by soldiers for taking photos and videos with their mobile phones and a camera in the closed city of Maras under military service area in Gazimağusa.

They were taken to a court in Lefkosa on charges of trespassing.

We came to travel. We live in Southern Cyprus. We went for a birthday party. We did not know it was forbidden instead.

The court ordered the couple to remain in detention for 2 days, noting that the investigation against the suspects continued.
