Photo of the Day - Turkish Army landing in North Cyprus 44-years ago today
44-years ago today marked the day Turkish Army landed in North Cyprus on a Peace Mission and few days later, the little Cyprus island was divided into Northern and Southern Cyprus.
The Turkish army landed in Girne at about 5:30 am on July, 20, 1974 and parachuted just outside of Lefkoşa in the northern part of the island. The day will be marked with several events and ceremonies across north Cyprus.
Also, Greek Cypriots will mark the day with sirens at 5.30am which coincide with the same time the Turkish landed in the island.
Memorial services will be held across south Cyprus to honour the victims of the war and to condemn the presence of Turkish army in the island.
