Paper Round: Manchester United cull Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian for £65m Harry Maguire

Manchester United raise funds for Harry Maguire, Liverpool plan to sell three players, Chelsea struggle to sign Daniele Rugani and want £200m for Eden Hazard.

United sell to fund Maguire move
Manchester United are preparing to sell players in order to raise funds for their £65m bid for Harry Maguire. The Leicester City central defender could break the bank, and so United are planning to sell Marcos Rojo to newly promoted Wolves, and Matteo Darmian to Juventus. Darmian is happy to return to Italy while Rojo’s £160,000 a week wages and £30m fee could be an obstacle.

Liverpool ready to sell three players
Danny Ings
After spending a fortune on a handful of players, Liverpool are ready to claw back some cash with some player sales. They will sell Danny Ings to Crystal Palace if the London club meets their £20m valuation, despite Jurgen Klopp wanting him to stay. Simon Mignolet is subject of a £12m bid from Turkish club Besiktas, and Lazar Markovic could depart for Olympiakos for a transfer fee of around £5-7m.

Chelsea struggle to sign Rugani

Chelsea are finding it difficult to pull off the signing of Juventus defender Daniele Rugani. The 23-year-old Italian international has agreed a deal with Chelsea to move to the Premier League. Despite Juventus putting Andrea Barzagli, Giorgio Chiellini and the returning Leonardo Bonucci ahead of him in defence, they want to keep him and will allow him time on the pitch, so Maurizio Sarri may well miss out.

Just as Juventus won’t make it easy for Chelsea to get hold of Rugani, now Chelsea are reluctant to let Eden Hazard join Real Madrid for anything less than a giant offer. The 27-year-old Belgian international has made it clear he wants to depart for Spain, but is not pushing for a move. Sarri wants to work with both Willian - who missed out on a move to Barcelona - and Hazard, but Chelsea are worried Hazard will not extend his current deal which has two years left to run.
