Nigerian arrested at Ercan Airport for using passport belonging to another person
A Nigerian has been arrested at the Ercan airport in North Cyprus for trying to exit the the country with a passport belonging to another person.
The suspect, S.A was arrested on Tuesday July, 17 by immigration at the Ercan airport while trying to check in his luggage as he attempted to leave the TRNC to Nigeria with another person's international passport.
Further investigation revealed that he had tried to use the passport belonging to one C.O.
Police said the passport was taken as an evidence adding that the suspect had accepted the offense and gave voluntary testimony.
He was taken to a Lefkosa court on Wednesday July 18 on charges of "obtaining illegal falsified documents."
Sami who was initially detained for two days appeared in court again on Friday.
Police demanded in court that he be detained for eight days to allow enough time to carry out more investigation and prevent the suspect from influencing the case.
But the court judge objected to the 8-day request and instead granted an order for the suspect to be detained for four days due to the hot weather and lack of ventilation and air conditioning in the cells.
