Man stole bag with money in north Cyprus beach, said he wanted to keep it for the owner

He came to the beach very early in the morning and probably saw no one around but a bag containing money. Instead of looking to see if anyone was around, he took the bag and ran away... Trust the security cameras.

A 31-year-old man have been arrested at the Bafra Public Beach for stealing a bag containing money.

The accused, identified as Ufuk Aslan, 31, a foreign national working in the TRNC reportedly stole the bag containing different foreign currencies on Monday July 23.

The money, 200 pounds, 60 euros and 220 TL cash was left in the bag under the lifeguard club by Raşit Hacıbey who entered the sea at the Bafra Public Beach at about 6:30 am on Tuesday to take a bath.

The suspect was later identified and arrested by police on the same day after camera images were reviewed.
Police said the suspect voluntarily confessed to the incident and was taken to a court in Iskele on Tuesday.

The suspect, told the court that he took the money to take it to someone else adding that he had waved his hands in front of the security camera to let them know that he took the bag.

There was no one there at the beach at 06:30 in the morning. Everyone knows me there. I took it so nobody took the money. Then I waved in front of the camera. I went to Lefkosa. I could not call the police because I did not have a credit card, the suspect said in court.

He was released on bail of 5,000TL and 2 guarantors of the TRNC citizen. His passport and travel documents was also seized to prevent him from leaving the country.

He was not able to meet his bail condition and was then ordered to remain in detention for a period of months before trial begin against him.
