Intervention in Cyprus was based on an international agreement
TRNC Deputy Prime Minister and
Minister of Foreign Affairs Kudret Özersay has stated that, Turkey's intervention in Cyprus was based on an international agreement.
According to him, while there
are some people who draw parallels between the ‘invasion’ issue in
Azerbaijan and the situation in the TRNC, the two are incomparable as
the intervention in the TRNC was based on an international agreement.
The
Deputy Prime Minister was speaking at the “International Leaders Forum
on Education,” organized by the Azerbaijan-Cyprus Turkish Friendship
Society and the Turkish Union Solidarity Association, held in the TRNC
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Uğur Umar Conference Hall on Wednesday where he delivered
the opening lecture of the forum.
In his speech, Özersay discussed the Cyprus issue and the 50-year long negotiation process. Stating that the Cyprus problem was not unique but a “frozen ethnic conflict” and also an international discrepancy, Özersay said that a partnership republic was established in 1960 according to an international agreement and constitutional law.
