Foreign worker arrested for planting weed in his home in Lefkosa

A 25-year-old man has been arrested and jailed for planting Indian hem in his house in Lefkosa following a search by narcotics police that uncovers the banned plant.

According to police report, the search by the narcotics team was carried out at his residence in Lefkosa on June 28.

The accused only identified as A.S, 25 is said to have planted a root Horticulture plant in a pot. Police said he accepted the crime and gave voluntary testimony during interrogation.

He was taken to court on Monday on charges of "illegal drug use and saving."

Speaking at the court, the suspect said,

I understood very well that it was a criminal offense during my detention. I do not have any guilt until now. For the first time I made such a mistake.
I apologize for making you busy because of the mistake I made, he said.

Police said the suspect who had been in the country has a work permit until the crime was committed, after which the permit was canceled by his workplace because of the crime.

He was sent to the Lefkosa central prison as as an unconstitutional detainee, not exceeding 45 days due to the guarantee order.
