Electricity prices in TRNC increase by 30 percent

The price of electricity has gone up by between 24 and 30 percent, depending on the tariff.

Turkish Cypriot Electricity Authority (Kib-Tek) has raised its electricity tariffs by up to 30 per cent this month. Following a rise in world oil prices and the depreciation of the Turkish Lira, TRNC electricity prices have gone up by an average of 19 kuruş per kilowatt hour.

Kib-Tek officials say that the tariffs for the next month will be 24 percent higher at the lowest tariff, graduating to a 30 percent increase to the highest tariff.

After an average of 18 percent (7.88 kuruş) increase in electricity charges which took effect on May 1, 2018, smaller increments were made to prices in June.
