Cyprus Talks: Guterres assigns Jane Holl Lute
The announcement was made by the UN Chief’s Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq on Tuesday.
Responding to a question from the Anadolu Agency reporter as to “who will be the new high level UN official the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres will send to the island to conduct consultations with both sides and when this visit will be realized” Farhan Haq said “the Secretary General asked Jane Holl Lute to conduct consultations with all the members of the Conference on Cyprus and currently she is planning the steps to be taken.”
UN Secretary General Guterres in his final Cyprus report to the UN Security Council stated that he will be sending a high level UN official to the island soon to determine whether there is an atmosphere for a meaningful process or not.
Meanwhile, the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative Elizabeth Spehar will be meeting with the two leaders this week ahead of her visit to New York next week where she will be briefing members of the UN Security Council on the Cyprus Issue.
