Bicommunal pop up kitchen to hold in Nicosia this week

Border Kitchen, the pop-up dining concept that highlights the power of food to bring people together and build bridges, will hold this week in Nicosia.

This time the session will however, in addition to the shared dinner experience, participants will have the opportunity to attend a cooking workshop and a beer tasting in addition to being one of the first in Cyprus to try Colive Oil, a premium olive oil produced in partnership with family farms across all of the island.

The event, which is taking place at the Old Powerhouse Restaurant, will be hosted by Border Kitchen founder, Niki Psarias.

We are collaborating with chefs, and food and drink producers and enthusiasts from both Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities, who are doing cool things with food!” the organiser said, promising a unique experience.

Foodies from both sides of the island will have the opportunity to attend a cooking workshop with chef and lecturer in Gastronomy Munevver Gurel, where they will learn and create their own dish. Munevver is also joined by young chefs Laden Olkanli and Damla Lisaniler.

Later on, they will sample “the now-famous Drink for Peace beer”, and meet the creators of the Cypriot recipe Costas Siahinian and Orçun Cananoglu.

They will also sample Colive Oil and hear the story behind the initiative from founder, Hasan Siber and fellow Director Alexandros Philippides.

Following the activities, all participants will share a meal together with delicious dishes by chef Munevver and her team, alongside their own creations from the workshop.

All activities will be in English. The event will take place on Wednesday July 4 between 7pm and 11pm. As only 24 seats will be available, booking in advance is essential. Tickets are €25 plus Eventbrite card processing fee.
