August, 1 declared public holiday to celebrat 1st of August Communal Resistance Day

August, 1, 2018 has been declared a public holiday to celebrate the 1st of August Communal Resistance Day which will be celebrated across the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus with various ceremonies and events.

The 1st of August marks the 42nd anniversary of the establishment of the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces Command, the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Resistance Organization and the 447th anniversary of the conquest of Cyprus by the Ottomans.

The Cyprus Turkish Security Forces Command announced that all martyrdoms throughout the country are open to public visits.

On the 1st of August at 8am a 16 kilometer endurance run will begin at Boğazköy and end at the TMT Fighters Association.

On the same day wreath laying ceremonies will take place in front of the Atatürk and Martyrs’ monuments in the capital Lefkoşa and similar ceremonies will be held across the TRNC to mark the 1st of August Communal Resistance Day.

A ceremony will also take place at the Cumhuriyet Park Monument at noon.

Meanwhile separate receptions will be held at a variety of military messes in celebration of the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces Command anniversary.
