89% of Turkish Cypriot think corruption and bribery are high in Northern Cyprus

According to the 2017 Northern Cyprus Corruption Perception Report, 89 per cent of business people think that corruption and bribery are high in Northern Cyprus.

The report is prepared using the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) methodology published every year by Transparency International (TI).

The survey is conducted by Lipa Consultancy Company with the participation of 366 business people who are in executive positions in the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce. 

SURVEY RESULTS
On the other hand, 62 per cent of those surveyed thought that 'public resources were abused by ministers / officials for personal or party purposes'. According to the perception of the Participants, abuse to obtain both party benefits and personal financial interests is common. 

62 percent of the respondents also said that public resources should be protected by ministers / authorities , while 56 percent said that corruption has increased compared to the previous year, while public funds accounted for 46 percent of those who think public resources are too widespread to be transferred to private companies, individuals and groups because of corruption  think that he has been abused for personal or party purposes.  

According to the report, 67 percent of the respondents see politicians as politicians, while 62 percent see political parties as the two most intense corruption groups.

The rate of believing it to be precise procedures that regulate the use and accountability of public resources is 53 percent whereas those who think that it is independent institutions that can control the administration of public finance is 40 percent. 

The proportion of those who responded "yes" to the question of whether there is an independent judiciary with the power to judge the public resources / authorities is 38 percent.

The results of the survey showed that there was widespread belief that corruption was committed by senior officials and politicians, and that the infrastructure was inadequate to prevent corruption. 

Participants were found to have serious doubts about the independence and deterrence of the independent quasi-financial institutions.

According to the perception of the participants, exploits are made in order to obtain both party, interest and personal financial interests. 

INDEPENDENT JUDICIAL BELIEF IS NOT POWERFUL The
survey found that the judiciary beliefs of those who participated in the survey were not strong. The percentage of respondents who answered "yes" to the question whether there was an independent judiciary with the power to judge the ministers / officials who exploited public resources was 38 percent.  

EXPECTED RATIO
According to the LOW Report, the percentage of those who are expected to deter corruption as well as those who see an institution as highly effective / successful are very low. 

According to this, 13 percent of the Assembly, 13 percent of the Prime Ministry Supervisory Board, 15 percent of the Court of Accounts, 17 percent of the Finance Inspection and Review Board, 20 percent of the media, 22 percent of the Ombudsman, 23 percent of the unions, community organizations, 29 percent of the courts and 33 percent of the social media is successful.
