45 people arrested in FETO operation in Girne port

A total of 45 people including 19 men, 9 women, and 17 children all suspected to be members of the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), were arrested by police on Friday night at the Girne port as they attempted to escape to Greece by boat.

The authorities dispatched security forces to the coastal city of Girne after receiving a tip that the group was preparing to escape to Greece on Friday night.

The suspects were identified and arrested by the police.

They were taken to a Girne court on Saturday on charges of having links to FETO, a group Turkey accused for being responsible for the failed 2016 military coup.

They were ordered to remain in detention for three days.
