UN says it will not propose an envoy for Cyprus unless both parties agree to that person

The UN has said that it will not propose an envoy, mediator or a negotiator between parties for Cyprus if both parties do not agree to that person.

This was made known by, Stephane Dujarric,  Spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

The spokesman was invited during Monday’s briefing at the UN headquarters to clarify statements by Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN and President of the UN Security Council Vassily NebenziHe that a special envoy was being proposed but before some things happen politically in some of these areas that will not be done.

We will announce what we need to announce when we feel the situation is ready, Dujarric said.
