Two male and a female detained for bringing drugs from south Cyprus into north Cyprus

Three people including a female have been arrested and detained by the TRNC narcotics police for bringing drugs from south Cyprus into north Cyprus.

According to police report, the three people, who brought the drugs into north Cyprus from south Cyprus for the second time were caught with 83 grams of drug substances on Tuesday, June 26.

The three suspects identified as Muhammed Baaj, Omar Alhanin and Makbule Akbuğa were arrested and detained following a drug operation in Lefkosa on Tuesday. 

They were taken to a Lefkosa court on the charges of drug abuse.


One of the suspect, Baaj was arrested in his house following a tip off and about 3 grams of drug substance was found in his house following a search.

Another suspect, Alhanin who tried to disposed of 5 grams of drug substance through the apartment balcony when he noticed the police upon arriving at Baaj's apartment was also arrested during the operation.

Police stated that Alhanin's girlfriend who was waiting for him in a vehicle parked outside the house was arrested after 35 grams of drug substance was found in two separate packets following a search carried out on her.

Police said they also found 7 grams of drug in a packet and another 45 grams of drugs in a search carried out in Alhanin's apartment.

The court ordered that they remain in police detention for two days pending the completion of investigation against them.
