Two EMU students arrested for not standing up during national anthem! (video)

Two female students at the Eastern Mediterranean University EMU in Famagusta have been detained by North Cyprus police after the girls refused to stand up during the national anthem at their graduation ceremony.

According to Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris Postasi, the two students aged 22 and 30, from Eastern Turkey’s Sirnak province, were sitting down during the singing of the national anthem.

According to the report, the two students refused to standup when they were warned to stand up.

A brief video of the incident showing the students at their seats with people around them standing up and singing the national anthem of Turkey was also posted online.

A police officer later arrested the two girls, with one of the girls saying they did not stand due to knee problems.

Reports also say that the girls were charged with inappropriate behavior and will be taken to court.
