Three students found guilty of drug offense by a Girne court, 2 sent to jail

Three students arrested for drug related offenses in January has been found guilty and sentenced to prison by a Girne court.

Two of the accused identified as Jeremiah. F., and Israel. N. were all found guilty of drug-taking, giving and saving crimes by a Girne court on Wednesday while a third accused, Victor, E., was given a suspended sentence.

The students were tried for the crimes of  selling, saving and buying "Synthetic Cannabinoid Type Illegal Drug.

According to report, the three accused were caught and arrested with synthetic cannabinoid drugs weighing 35 grams in three separate operations in Girne on January 25, 2018 and taken to court for trial.

Police said they found 10 grams of drug substance and 36 different packages in an operation carried out on Emughedi's residence.

The second accused, Israel, confessed to buying 15 grams of drug from Jeremiah on January 20th.

Jeremiah confessed to buying 50 grams synthetic cannabinoid type drug and sold some and consumed some said police report.

Police said 25 grams of synthetic cannabinoid drug was seized from Israel's home after he was linked to the incident.

They all confessed and accepted the crime, said police in court proceedings.

In the judgment against the accused, the court sentenced Jeremiah to 24 months in prison and Israel to 12 months imprisonment, while Victor was given an ordered of Supervised Freedoms for 1 year. .
