Psychotic student to remain in Lefkosa jail for fear of committing another crime

A university student who was arrested for breaking the windows of two vehicles parked in a car park in Lefkosa was found to have psychotic distress due to substance use and will remain in police custody for fear of future occurrence.

The student identified as Mohammed Salem M. Alshigagi, a 21-year-old student from Saudi Arabia, was arrested for breaking the mirrors and rear-view mirrors of two separate vehicles parked in two different districts in Lefkosa on Tuesday.

He was taken to a Lefkosa court on Wednesday where re requested for bail.

Police in their investigation report said the suspect was arrested in Shakti at Ortakoy in Lefkosa on June 19. 

He had on the same day destroyed the two vehicles at different location in Lefkosa. Police said the property damage in the vehicles has not yet been determined.

Police said the suspect had previously been linked to a drug offense because of substance abuse problems.

The police demanded that he be put in custody saying that his health condition was not in place and that he would continue to commit the crime if released.

The court decided that he be sent to prison and also see a doctor in order to be present in future trial
