Nigerian student sentenced to 105 days in prison for illegal resident and for keeping 118 milligrams of drugs
A Nigerian student has been sentenced to a combined 105 days in prison for illegally living in the country and for keeping 118 milligrams of drugs mixed with tobacco.
According to report by Turkish Cypriot newspaper, Kibris, the accused identified as C.O.B was sentenced to 105 days imprisonment by a Famagusta court on Wednesday.
He was taken to court on two count charge of staying in the country illegally for months without a resident permit and for keeping 118 milligrams of synthetic cannabinoid drug mixed with tobacco.
Noting the seriousness and the increase in such crime, the court judge stressed that doing drug is a serious and grave crimes that envisage 18 years imprisonment and up to 6 months in prison for unauthorized residence.
The judge noted that the accused came into the country for educational purposes and emphasized that he was living in the country without permission because he neglected public authority without renewing his resident status and then engaging in drug.
The court noted that the accused who has no legal status in the country, could not benefit from the Probationary Freedom Act, and was sentenced to 75 days imprisonment for his illegal status and 30 days for drug possession.
