Man arrested for sexually assaulting and beating a female student in Lefkosa
The accused identified as Mürsel Aydin was arrested and taken to a Lefkosa court on Saturday on charges of sexual assault, forced harassment and for seriously beating a 21-year-old student in Lefkosa identified as E.G.
According to police report, the suspect reportedly committed the crime on June 20-21. According to the report, the suspect had met the 21-year-old woman on Facebook for about a year. They then agreed to go on an entertainment together on June, 20.
The suspect then went to Lefke to take the victim to Lefkoşa. On the way, the suspect and the victim stopped to get a drink in a market.
After drinking the victim told the suspect to take her home, but instead he took her to his home forcefully against her wish where he committed the act.
Police said the victim reported the incident to the police on 21 June and following a search for the suspect, he was later arrested on June, 22 while trying to leave the country through the Girne Tourism Port.
The court judge who assessed the testimony brought before the court, said the matter was a very serious one and ordered the suspect to remain in police custody for 3 days while investigation into the matter.
