Man arrested 11 months after for r*pe

A man who was accused of raping a woman in Dikmen in 2017 and then flee the country to south Cyprus, has been arrested 11 months after the incident.

The man identified as Hasan Isklek, who was accused of raping a woman identified as S.K in Dikmen in July 2017, was arrested on Tuesday morning as he attempted to pass through the Metehan border gate between north and south Cyprus.

In July 2017 in Dikmen, Isklek along with his accomplice Ilkay Tosun, escaped to Southern Cyprus after raping the woman.

But his accomplice, Tosun, returned to north Cyprus from south Cyprus in December and handed himself over to the police following which he was released on bail as he awaits prosecution.

After completing the investigation against him, he was taken to a Girne Court on charges of "sexual assault" and "serious assault" where he was granted bail on collateral.

He was also prohibited from leaving the country until after his trial.
