Group to launch campaign for direct flights from UK to North Cyprus
A petition for allowing direct flights to and from North
Cyprus will be launched today Sunday by the Turkish Cypriot
Chamber of Commerce.
According to the chairman of the Turkish Cypriot
Chamber of Commerce, Turgay Deniz, the first target is to
collect 10,000 signatures with the aim of reaching 100,000 signatures
eventually.
Deniz described the issue of direct flights as the biggest problem for the Turkish Cypriots living both in London and Cyprus.
Our first target during the campaign, which we will begin during the 2nd Turkish Cypriot Cultural Festival, is to collect 10,000 signatures. Our target is to increase the signatures to 100,000 later, he noted.
Additionally, Deniz said that North Cyprus should revive its relations with the Turkish Cypriots living abroad and take steps to exempt them from military service as well as giving them the right to vote and be elected.
He said that the TRNC economy will benefit, if these Turkish Cypriots spend their holidays in North Cyprus, purchase houses and make investments.
