6 Tons of meat confiscated in Famagusta (photos)

About 6 tons of illegal meat was seized and confiscated in an operation carried out by a team of crime prevention police in Famagusta on Wednesday.

According to police report, about 6 tons of illegal meat were found in an an open truck from south Cyprus in an unhygienic and unhealthy condition.

Police said the meat originated from Austria, Poland and Denmark in what it described as the biggest smuggling in the history of the TRNC.

The meat consisting of beef, veal, beef steaks were confiscated and removed from the public by municipal and customs workers.

The driver of the truck identified as A.E, was arrested and taken to a Famagusta court while another is been sought by the police.

The meat will be destroyed and burned in the Famagusta garbage.
