38-Year-old man arrested in Lefkosa for raping a woman

A 38-year-old man has been arrested by the North Cyprus police for allegedly raping a 26-year-old woman while she was sleeping in the same house.

According to police report, the suspect identified as Atamurat Orunov reportedly attacked the woman who was sleeping with her elder sister at about 12:30am on Monday in Küçükkaymaklı district.

He then fled the scene of the incident when the sister tried to interfere but was later arrested by the police and taken to a Lefkosa court for rape offence.

The suspect accepted the charge of rape brought against him and was ordered by the court to remain in police custody for 3 days pending investigation.

According to police report, the suspect carried out the act on the 26-year-old victim who was sleeping in the same house with her elder sister.

The victim told the police that the man violently raped her despite her resistance.
