3 people including a 16-year-old arrested in Famagusta for shopping with counterfeit money

At least three people have been arrested in Famagusta for shopping with counterfeit money at two different malls in Famagusta with one of them being a 16-year-old.

According to police report, the three accused persons, were arrested on the charges of "fraudulent banknote saving", "going around with counterfeit banknotes" and "paying for goods and services with fraud." They were all brought to a Famagusta court on Monday.

Police investigation revealed that the 16-year-old suspect had shopped with the fake bank notes at the Lemar-based shopping center in the Terminal district on June 22 while the other two suspects, Zanlıca and A.A. had two 200-TL counterfeit banknotes with them at the time of shopping.

Police report also stated that suspect C.A also went to the Önder Shopping Center on 23 June where he shopped with fake a 200 TL note.

Police said the Önder Mall camera images were examined and the suspect A.A was detected from the camera records. 

Police said the other suspects had also testified voluntarily about the matter, and confessed to using the money. 

The Famagusta Court ordered the 16-year- old suspect to be put in a suitable room at the Police Headquarters, not at the cells, while the other suspects were ordered to remain in police custody for three days for the purposes of the investigation.
