Weak Lira boost fuel sales in TRNC as Greek Cypriots rush to buy

Fuel sales at the TRNC filling stations have trebled in the last few days especially at stations near the border with south Cyprus due to the fall in the value of the Turkish Lira.

According to report, the fall of the lira against the euro, prompted Greek Cypriot motorists to fill up their tanks across the border, giving fuel sales at north Cyprus filling stations a huge boost.

Fuel sales which normally average around 600 thousand litres a day, have risen three times in the past week to around 2 million litres according to report by Turkish Cypriot daily, Kibris Postasi.

According to the average rate, 1 litre of petrol costs 4.30 TL which corresponds to 0.79 Euro per litre.

So while, Turkish Cypriots are hit by the devaluation of the lira in cost of living terms, the upside is that sales to foreign currency holders have shot up.

A gain or what?
