TRNC government, revokes 175 specially granted citizenships

The North Cyprus government, has revoked 175 specially granted citizenships. This is coming after a seven-hour Cabinet meeting on Thursday.

According to TRNC Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kudret Ozersay who made the disclosure after the meeting, many issues were also addressed at the meeting.

After a special inquiry into the exceptional granting of 2,000 citizenships by the former coalition government, 170 of those were found to be unlawful and will be revoked, he said.

The Cabinet also decided that there should be the right to conscientious objection to being drafted into the military. 

An amendment to the Military Service Law is in progress and the bill is in the process of being drafted, Ozersay said.
