Student arrested for drug in Famagusta to stay in prison as police fears he may commit more crime.

A Nigerian student who was arrested for drug in Famagusta will remain in jail indefinitely because police fear he may commit the crime again. 

The suspect who had been arrested for similar crime in the past will not be released by the court for reason that he may go back to the crime.

The suspect identified as S.O.A, 28 was arrested with 36 grams of jailed drug, on May 19 and was brought before a Famagusta court on Monday.

Narcotics police said they found a total of 36 grams of substance believed to be jail break drugs on him following a search on his car during a traffic search in Famagusta last week.

Police said he admitted to purchasing the substances which cost about 600 euros from someone whose identity was only revealed as B.

A young woman who was arrested along him was released after it was found that she has no connection with the crime.


The police noted that the suspect has been arrested twice in the past for similar crime noting that if he was released, there is the possibility that he will commit the crime again demanding that he be sent to prison.

The court judge noting that the suspect had been brought to court on two occasion in the past for such crime said that there was a tendency to commit similar crimes" and ordered that he be sent to prison as an outright detainee.
