Ramadan begins on Wednesday
The Islamic holy month of Ramadan begins on Wednesday May 16 as Muslims in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, alongside Muslims
all over the world will practice fasting, one of the Five Pillars of
Islam, for the next 30 days.
The holy month will end with the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Fitr on Friday the 15 of June.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is a time when Muslims abstain from food, drink and smoking from sunrise to sunset.
It is also a time when families share meals after sunset followed by gatherings with friends or neighbours.
Throughout the course of the fasting month, Muslims are urged to perform extra prayers, recite the Quran, give alms to the poor, and refrain from misbehaviour.
Good luck to all Muslims around the world.
