Post office staff arrested for stealing packages released on bail

A post office staff arrested for stealing packages worth thousands of Turkish Liras has been released on bail as he awaits trial.

According to report, investigation against Önder Ilgın, a public servant who was arrested after being found to have stolen packages from the Lefkosa Central Post Office have been completed.

The suspect who works as a public officer in the Lefkosa division of the Central Post Office was arrested on charges of having stolen packages from abroad, and have been in police custody for more than two weeks.

He was brought to a Lefkosa court on Wednesday where he was granted bail with the request of collateral.

The court banned him from going abroad before the trial and to report to the nearest police station at least once a week.

The suspects was accused of being responsible for missing 13 different PTT mail that arrived from Ercan Airport including various electronic goods, mobile phones and accessories, a watch, jewelries and confectionery with an estimated cost of over 2,000 TL as well as several letters during the time period he worked at the post office between September 2013 and April 30, 2018.
