Police suspended in south Cyprus for stealing from dead body

A police officer has been suspended in south Cyprus for stealing from the body of a dead person he had been transporting.

According to report by Greek Cypriot daily, Cyprus Mail, the police officer is suspending pending an investigation into allegations that he stole valuables from the dead person.

The special constable, who serves at the force’s body removal department, was accused of stealing two rings from the fingers of a corpse during transportation to the morgue, daily Politis reported on Wednesday.

The paper said the incident happened late in April.
Police said the officer was immediately suspended and criminal and administrative probes were launched.
