Cyprus Talks: Clarify whether you accepts the UNSG’s parameters - Anastasiades to Turkey and North Cyprus
Greek Cypriot president, Nicos Anastasiades has called on Turkish Cypriot president, Mustafa Akinci, to clarify whether he accepts the UNSG’s framework.
Anastasiades who made the call on Wednesday, called on Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot to clarify their position and say whether they accept or not the parameters set by the UN Secretary General at the Crans Montana Cyprus talks last July.
In a written statement issued after recent statements made by Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, saying that he accepts the UNSG`s framework as a strategic agreement on the Cyprus issue, Anastasiades noted that if Akinci accepts the Guterres framework as it was finalised on the 4th of July 2017, this constitutes “a positive development.”
He points out that Akinci but more importantly, Turkey, have to clarify whether they adopt the provisions of the framework on the issues of security and guarantees and on the issues of foreign troops.
We hope this new development leads somewhere.
