Turkish man who stabbed wife to death at CIU last year sentenced to life in imprisonment
A Turkish man who stabbed his wife at the Cyprus International University in April last year has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Lefkosa court.
The accused, Suat Asır, 35 caused panic at the university on April, 20, 2018 when he stabbed his wife Gamze Pehlivan, 37 to death following an argument and then attempted to set her on fire.
The couple who lives in Izmir, Turkey were a tourist in the TRNC when the incident happened.
Gamze Pehlivan, was stabbed multiple times with a knife in the unfortunate incident that happened at the entrance of the university campus.
From reports we gathered at the time, read here Suat Asır who was armed with a knife was reportedly seen walking with the victim who is pregnant and another female friend when an argument broke out between them. This made him to grabbed the victim by the neck severally before setting set her on fire.
He fled the crime scene in a car after threatening the car driver with a knife while by standers tried to give him a chase before police and medics arrived the scene.
He was arrested two hours later along the Famagusta-Lefkosa high way.
paramedics tried to resuscitate the victim and was rushed to the Lefkosa State hospital but was later pronounced dead on arrival.
An autopsy carried out on her revealed that she had about 12 knife cuts on her body and suffered a second degree burn on her face, shoulder and back region.
Police investigation revealed that the suspect had purchased the weapon and fuel he used in the act two days before the murder.
