The Greek Cypriot goal is the resumption of Cyprus talks - Greek Cypriot Government Spokesman
The resumption of talks for the reunification
of Cyprus is the goal of the Greek Cypriot side, the Greek Cypriot Government Spokesman
Prodromos Prodromou said on Friday, noting that Monday’s dinner between Cyprus
President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot president Mustafa Akinci
is a positive development.
In statements after a meeting between President Anastasiades and UN Secretary General’s Special Representative and Deputy Special Adviser on Cyprus Elizabeth Spehar, at the Presidential Palace, the Spokesman said that during the meeting President Anastasiades was briefed on UN preparations for the dinner.
He reiterated that the dinner “is a positive development,” adding that it is something that should take place.
UN Secretary General’s Special Representative and Deputy Special Adviser on Cyprus Elizabeth Spehar said “Things are going smoothly and the UN look forward to hosting both leaders on Monday”.
The dinner provides the first opportunity for Anastasiades and Akinci to meet since a Conference on Cyprus, at the Swiss resort of Crans Montana, ended inconclusively last July.
