Student who hit police officer & reported himself granted bail but couldnt meet up with terms so to remain in police custody for one month

Student who reportedly hit a police officer at a police check point in Famagusta last week and later reported himself to the police has been granted bail but will remain in police custody for one month because he couldn't meet up with the bail terms.

Police sergeant Hazar Aşçıoğlu, who was in charge of duty during a routine traffic patrol in Famagusta on Saturday April 14 was hit by a car that refused to stop.

The suspect surrendered himself to the police two days later on April 16th and was taken to court where he was ordered to remain in police custody for two days.

He was brought before Famagusta court on Friday where he was granted bail with terms including depositing a cash bond of 3,000 TL and sign a bail ticket of 30,000 TL with 2 guarantors both citizens of the TRNC while his passport and travel document will also be confiscated and will be required to report to the police at least once every week.

Police in a court document against the suspect said the suspect prevented the police sergeant from performing his duties by fleeing the scene.

But unfortunately, he was unable to meet most of the bail terms and was ordered by the court to remain in police custody for one month.
