Student hit police officer controlling traffic in Famagusta with a car
A car driven by an African student has reportedly hit a police officer who was controlling traffic in Famagusta on Sunday morning.
According to police report, a black Mercedes car driven by a foreign national refused to obey warning to stop before hitting a police sergeant who was controlling traffic at Esmerim Street beside Gülseren Gölü, Gazimağusa at about 1:30am on Sunday.
The police sergeant Hazar Aşçıoğlu who was wounded in the incident, was taken to the Gazimağusa State Hospital by his colleagues and was later discharged.
After the incident, the police launched an investigation to detect the driver of the vehicle.
According to police, initial investigation revealed that the driver who is learned to be an African student, stays in a luxury town in Famagusta but a university student in Lefkosa.
The vehicle plate number has been shared several times on social media.
Police urged the public to report the vehicle if seen.
