Customs officer arrested with drugs as he tries to enter the TRNC
A 37-year-old man who works as a customs officer in the British Ussur region was arrested by the TRNC narcotics police after he was found with 13 grams of hinchery kind drugs and 14 grams of cocaine when he attempted to enter the TRNC through the Beymarudu Border Gate on Friday.
The suspect, Ali Mehmet Soyer, 37 working as a customs officer in the British Ussur Region was stopped by the narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate teams at the Beymarudu Border Gate at about 8:30pm on Friday.
Police said they acted on a tip off following which his car was searched and about 13 grams of tincture, and in the same bag, a substance believed to be about 14 grams of cocaine type drug was found.
The suspect was arrested and brought to a Famagusta court on Saturday where he was given a three days detention period as investigation continues.
