90 Construction sites closed in North Cyprus

The North Cyprus Department of Labor has closed 90 construction sites following an inspection carried out in several parts of the country.

The Department inspected 203 construction sites between February 7th and April 13th, 2018, including 109 in Lefkoşa, 27 in Girne, 54 in Famagusta and 13 in Güzelyurt.

Following the inspection, 48 sites were closed down in Lefkosa, 14 in Girne, 21 in Famagusta and 7 in Güzelyurt while 3 construction sites were partially opened and 71 construction sites were reopened with necessary precautions.

A total of 31 construction sites were given written warning, 19 in Lefkosa, 2 in Girne, 9 in Famagusta and 1 in Güzelyurt.

Some construction company were fined by the health and safety inspections Under the Occupational Health and Safety Law.

This comes as there was an increasing number of work place accidents and deaths.

Drivers / employees, work permits and social security investments were inspected by the Labor Office, Social Insurance Department while the documents of passenger transportation vehicles, trucks / vans etc. were also checked.
