Students working in TRNC under threat as ministries takes measure to curb illegal workers

The TRNC ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior and Labor is planning to prevent unregistered workers including students and tourists from working in the country's work force and adopt a measures to prevent entry and exit of the country.

Under the spotlight are tourists or students working in the construction sector and other various sectors, especially informal workers.

The construction sectors will be most affected by any steps taken by the ministries as it boasts of many tourists and students working illegally.

The ministries said they were working on possible steps to be taken by creating a road map to solve the problems of informal workers in the country.

The Minister of Labor and Social Security, Zeki Çeler, declared during an interview with state broadcaster, BRT that there is a serious sense of informal workers and informal economy in the country.

Çeler said he will meet with the Directorates of Police and Immigration to take necessary measures stating that cooperation is needed in order to prevent such unregistered workers in the country because they causes problem both in informal economy of the country and socio-cultural areas.

He stated that the view that emerged during an inspections carried out at construction sites and places of work within the ministry's authority resulted in the need to act for a solution.

The Minister stated that a certain arrangement should be made in the entry and exit of the country.

He noted that students who come to the country on student visa and are transferred to the working sector should be looked into adding that a meeting would be held with the Education Minister in this regards.
