Student arrested for drug possession and sale in Lefkosa

An African student has been arrested by the North Cyprus Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate in Lefkosa, North Cyprus after he was caught with 15 grams of narcotics on Monday evening.

According to police report, the narcotics crew during the evening patrol at about 8:30pm acted when they noticed a suspicious parked vehicle.

Following a search on the vehicle, 15 grams of Indian Cannabis in ready for sale packages was found at the disposal of the suspect.

The drugs was sized and suspect identified as BSM was arrested and charged to a Lefkosa court where he confessed to the crime.

Police said the 29-year-old suspect also confessed to obtaining 900TL in cash gotten from drug sales.

Speaking in court, the said 19 packs were found on him and not 25 as stated by the police. He said he was beaten by the police who also wrote what he did not say.

He told the court he is a university and admitted to committing the crime for the first time.

He was ordered by the court to remain in police custody for three days for investigation purpose.
