Smoking, alcohol and drug use increasing in North Cyprus

The rate of alcohol, drugs and cigarettes consumption and use in North Cyprus is at an alarming rate said the president of Cypriot Green Leaf Association.

Ayşe Gökyiğit on Friday stressed that the use of cigarettes, alcohol and drugs in the country is increasing day by day.

Ayşe Gökyiğit, in a written statement she made on the event of the Green Week, said "The work done in this regard is inadequate and the vicious cycle is continuing. She said measures for supply and demand reduction should be pursued together, and prevention and treatment facilities should be increased in order to achieve the purpose of the studies. The state, civil society, family and individual solidarity should be strengthened with co-operation and everyone should do their best. Gökyiğt noted that education programs, especially for young people, should be included in the curriculum, be sustainable and provide sporting, social, artistic and cultural opportunities to spend quality leisure time.
