One on One with the president of "Nigerian Student Scholarship and Grant Scheme, North Cyprus"

Welcome to another edition of One on One on Olomoinfo Blog. On the segment today, we will be meeting the convener and president of the "Nigerian Student Scholarship and Grant Scheme, North Cyprus." He will be telling us what the scheme is all about and how you and I can be part of it.

Welcome to One on One on Olomoinfo Blog sir.

Can you please introduce yourself to us briefly?

Mr. Peter Ishaku is a PhD students at the Cyprus International University (CIU). He also work as a Research Assistant in the Faculty of Engineering. He is an executive member of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Turkish Zone and the CEO of Apolo Et Roma, CEO of HAPET Enterprise and Director at Habelite LTD.

-You are the convener and president of Nigerian Student Scholarship and Grant Scheme, North Cyprus… Why NSSGS?

NSSGS was born out of a heart of love and concern for my fellow Nigerians here in North Cyprus that may have or are having some challenges in every aspect of their lives especially in terms of finances.

-What is the aim and purpose of NSSGS?

The aim is to bridge the gap between students with challenges and those with the solution. Here on the Island all we have is each other therefore, it is our collective responsibility to take care of one another.

-As the name implies, Nigerian Student Scholarship and Grant Scheme.. Can students of other nationalities benefit from the Scheme?

We hope that as we do this for Nigerians, people from other countries will be encourage to start schemes like this, although with time as we grow we intend to expand and involve other nationalities so they can benefit directly.

-How positively will this affect the common students out there?

There’s a certain level of peace one has knowing there is a plan B, knowing that there is someone willing to hold your hand and stand with you during tough and challenging times. This scheme is not just about giving out money, it is an empowerment scheme to help students fight through challenges to a better version of themselves in all areas of their lives.

-Who and who is eligible for assistance? (How do you determine they are qualified for assistance?)

All Nigerians in North Cyprus are eligible. If possible we want to carry everyone along, to assist in terms of feeding, accommodation and hopefully tuition also.

-How do you intend to get support from the public?

This is something I’ve made up my mind to do with or without support, however I already spoke to some people and they are excited about it and are willing to be sponsors. We will send out letters and also use social media to reach out to people that maybe be interested.

-What kind of support do you need from the public?

We will need every kind of support, especially in monetary terms. As much as we have people with challenges, we have more people with the solution, therefore with all hands on deck we can do it.

-Do you have a team that can help make this project effective and a success?

Yes I do and I have so much believe in them and their ability to work, hoping to get more people on board.

-We understand that rendering and receiving help in Cyprus is not an easy task, so how do you hope to convince intending donor that they are doing the right thing by supporting the project. Talk about trust.

It feels good to receive but feels much better to give. Nigerians are good people, we don’t need to be convinced to do the right thing. All sponsors will be in a closed group where they will be updated about how the money is used weekly.

-Like we all know, challenges will come, how do you intend to get over them?

There’s no achievement without challenges, I’m expecting it. Some people might even say this is a scam just to get money from people, but their opinion is invalid because we will do the best we can and with time hopefully all doubts will be cleared.
