Information on how to obtain residence permit and procedure in North Cyprus

Are you a new student in North Cyprus or you need to renew your residence permit, here are some few steps that will guide you without much stress.

As a new student, first, you need to visit the student affairs department of your school for student residency permit application and get a registered student letter, then go for a medical health check, you can do that at the public hospital for 135TL and private hospital for 150TL. A receipt will be issued to you which you will present to get your result after three days. Note: After you get your result, DO NOT OPEN.

Upon leaving the hospital, go to the Ministry of Finance/Tax Office with your passport, House Contract/Dormitory Contract as well as your active/valid student letter, you will be required to pay a sum of 116TL for tax and a receipt will be issued to you. NOTE: Be sure to get the receipt of every payment and keep them safe.

After this, go to the post office or any shop which sells postal stamps which is like five minutes walk from the tax office and also opposite the Police Station(for those in Lefkosia), purchase 2 x 12.10TL stamps. Go to the police station with one of the stamps, submit it to them and ask for a police entrance-exit letter. After this, submit your documents at your student affairs department or ministry of works. You will be given a collection date.

These are the documents you must submit
  • International Passport
  • One 12.10TL postal stamp
  • Residence Permit's payment receipt (Tax receipt)
  • Police entrance and exit letter
  • One passportsize photo
  • Active student letter
  • Copy of international passport
  • Medicalhealth check result
  • Immigration form (to be filled at the student affairs/ministry of works)
For students renewal, follow all the steps above but you don't need a medical check result because you have done that before.

NOTE: For Masters and PhD students, you need 3 x 12.10TL
  • Always have a valid/active students letter, it is your means of identification after your international passport.
  • For the new students, you have 60 days after your arrival to complete your residency permit while its 30 days for the old students.
  • Failure to get your resident permit, you will be charged 100.38TL per day.
