Greek Cypriots using natural gas for superiority - METU lecturer
Middle East Technical University (METU) North Cyprus Campus Political Science and International Relations Program Instructor Assist. Assoc. Dr. Hayriye Kahveci Özgür has stated that the Greek Cypriots side were using the natural gas issue to instill superiority over the Turkish Cypriot side in the negotiating table instead of using it for solution.
She recalled that the only positive contribution the natural gas issue has solved is to increase the interest of the international community in the Cyprus problem.
Assoc. Dr. Hayriye Kahveci Özgür stated that the Greek Cypriots were also using the natural gas as an important criteria for negotiations adding that the US firm does not believe that the natural gas exploration process in the Eastern Mediterranean will also ease tensions.
In the evaluations of developments in Cyprus, she said Turkey drew attention to protecting the rights of Turkish Cypriots by taking steps on their behalf in the Mediterranean.
According to her, "the Republic of Turkey to date do not intend to harm the negotiation process on Cyprus.
