Foreign student in North Cyprus will no longer be granted work permit in the construction sector and can no longer work in clubs and betting houses

According to a new circular issued by the TRNC Ministry of Labor and Social Security on March 23, 2018, foreign students studying in universities in the country will no longer be issued work permit in the construction sector.

Olomoinfo Blog carried out a detailed investigation on the announcement and according to the written statement made by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the student work permit has brought a number of limitations.

In addition to this, foreign students who applied to the Ministry in order to get student work permit, have been directed to relevant units to submit a document showing that they have at least studied for one year in the university and have started their second year.

A statement by the Ministry states that the Ministry is taking into consideration that many applications related to the construction sector for student work permits and in this regard, measures will be taken until a new legislation is made, while applications made by students for work permits will be considered and forwarded to the appropriate office.

According to the By-Laws on Work Permits for Foreigners, students who come to the country for Higher Education are allowed to work in sectors that will not conflict with student identities, and in this respect the necessary ministries are also sensitive in this regard, the statement adds.

Foreign nationals will also not be able to be employed in places such as Night Clubs and similar places, and betting houses and related services.

These decisions are as follows:
1- The decision on student work permit states that beginning from 23 March 2018, registered workplaces in the TRNC, who submitted applications for student work permit for foreign students studying in universities in the TRNC will not be accepted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.

2.The student is required to apply for a study permit and must have completed at least one year of study and must also submit documents indicating that he or she has registered for the second year and if such conditions are not met, student work permit will not be approved by the Ministry.
